DARFUR

WILL WORK FOR FOOD is a humanitarian relief organization that is dedicated to saving malnourished kids. The crisis in Darfur is an extremely complex issue and we insist on remaining apolitical in order to focus on saving kids rather than disputing "good guys" versus "bad guys." However, we still think it's important to know the basic facts about the crisis in Darfur.

Darfur is a region in Sudan, Africa's largest country in the Northeast of the continent.

Darfur consists of two primary groups. Farmers that are mostly of African descent and nomadic herders that are usually of Arab descent.

For years, these farmers and herders have been fighting over the rights to land and other resources. As a result, Darfur is one of the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

Since 2003, between 300,000 and 400,000 people have died in Darfur.

The United Nations labeled Darfur "The World's Worst Humanitarian Crisis" in 2007.

Currently, over 2.5 million people are displaced from their homes and living in refugee camps.

Out of a population of 6 million, 5 million are in need of humanitarian support to survive.

1 in 7 kids in Darfur are severely malnourished. This means that without our help, 15% of the children in Darfur will either starve to death or suffer from weakened physical and mental development.
