I live in Ann Arbor, where I feel as though in day to day life, we are sheltered from the hunger that is prevalent in many places in the country and around the world. I feel as though I have not done my part to confront these issues and help those who are less fortunate then me. I have never once been worried about whether or not I would have food for the next meal. I really want to do what I can to help, and Will Work For Food is an amazing way to get involved.

WWFF is organizing an Ann Arbor community food drive. Huron and Pioneer students will go door to door in neighborhoods around the schools to collect canned food.

We'll meet at Huron at 3pm on May 23rd, break into groups and then go to neighborhoods close to Huron.

Heres the competition kicker:
each pound of food: 1 point
each dollar collected: 2 points
each person who volunteer: 5 points

The school with the most points wins and if we win we get a prize and the satisfaction of knowing that we beat Pioneer.

I do want to help other people who are not in the same position I'm. I'm in the Youth Advisory Core at the Ann Arbor YMCA and we help to raise money for an organization (Strong Kids) that creates opportunities for children in Ann Arbor. I love the work that we do and I am very proud of the money we raise and the children that we help. I have been interested in expanding so that I can help kids outside of Ann Arbor as well. WWFF is an organization I learned about through my school's National Honor Society, and it would be great if what volunteering I did with NHS benefitted more than just the people I directly impact. For over a year now, five of my friends and I have been sponsoring a child in India through Compassion International. I was struck when I read on her profile that the money we give for her every month is more than her father's monthly wages. I have played and worked with poor children in Belize while on a mission trip with my church youth group.

It's up to you what work you take on, but it should be something that benefits your community in some way or another.

-Serve a meal at a soup kitchen.

-Tutor younger students.

-Volunteer at a hospital or make "feel better" cards for sick kids.

-Donate old clothes.

-Donate canned food.

-Help an elderly neighbor.

I think WWFF is a great way to do double-charity work. By volunteering at home we also help people in Africa and all over the World. It's a very innovative idea and I love that it doesn't require you to go far from home. I am one of three Rep for WWFF at Huron High School.

I am currently serving as the WILL WORK FOR FOOD Campus Rep at Northwestern.

I WORK FOR FOOD because I believe it is a catchy way for people to improve their own communities while also helping to fight the child malnutrition crisis . I believe the crisis is extremely serious and is not getting enough attention. I think that this program will help.
