Hey everyone!

Due to the H1N1 pandemic and the amount of resources it has used up at the UNC Hospitals, the blood bank is running low. An extreme example of what this strain of the flu can do has shown it's ugly head in the case of Lillian Chason, a student here at UNC. A very easy way to help out not only her, but the rest of the people who need blood is to donate yours. There is going to be an emergency blood drive outside of the Union on Tuesday, I encourage everyone to go and donate! So sign up for the event and the blood drive (walk-in's are OK, but you might want to sign up so you don't have to wait around with finals), get sponsored and donate some blood! As always, shoot either Ben or Peter an email if you have any questions.

Thanks
Ben and Peter

*Subject:* A Call to Arms

Friends,

I Need Your Help! Most –if not all - of you know of freshman Lillian
Chason's heroic battle against H1N1 that has left her fighting for her life
at UNC Hospital. (DTH Article:
http://www.dailytarheel.com/content/student-hospitalized-flu-complications)
What you don’t know is that she needs our help! Lillian is now on her third
week of life-support and still in serious condition; however, she is an
amazing fighter and has already overcome numerous setback and complications.
That said, the life-support system she is on (known as ECMO) is not popular
in the medical field because it requires an extraordinarily large amount of
donor blood. So much in fact that her time on the machine has had a
noticeable effect on the local Blood Bank’s supplies - and even prompted a
worried call from Blood Services to Lillian's doctor. While the amazing
hospital staff and the great people at the Blood Bank are committed to
providing Lillian with all the tools she needs to heal, they need our help.
While we often think that the Blood Bank has inexhaustible supplies, in
truth they do not which is why her mother called me last night to ask if I
would organize a blood drive to offset the blood Lillian has been using.
While now is not the easiest of times to organize events, I couldn't say no.
Therefore:

We are holding a BLOOD DRIVE FOR LILLIAN this Tuesday from 9:30am-1:30pm. A
BloodMobile will be parked in front of the Student Union to collect
donations - all you have to do is click on a time here to reserve your
space: http://www2.mysignup.com/cgi-bin/view.cgi?datafile=lillian and then
show up (walk-ins are welcome too!). We also have a facebook event here:
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=223540578938. Please consider coming
yourself, bringing your friends, and forwarding the information to groups
you are affiliated with. Also, anyone willing to help out for a period of
time that Tuesday please contact me.

**I know studying is a priority but donating will only take 15 minutes and
it will NOT impair your ability to study or take an exam**

Thanks!
